It's the printing press all over again

Web 2.0 as it is called is nothing new. Just as internet was not really new. But that does not matter. The essence of communication is not new. From the first step people took to start to use sounds and signs to communicate thos that used those sounds to their advantage had a competitive edge.

The internet now is the same as the printing press was in the past. Then it was the Catholic church whose power was undermined now it is the big corporations. Of course ultimately these new communication tools will be used, abused and misused by the scheming powerful. But now there is a window of opportunity for more anarchistic and truly democratic ways to use this medium.

NOw it is much easier to find thos people who are able to channel the power of the people. It is even easier to be a channeler of power as an individual. All you have to do is realise that you can do so much by doing so little.

For now I will just refer to some blogs and people I think play an important part in this change.

JP Rangaswami "I believe that it is only a matter of time before enterprise software consists of only four types of application: publishing, search, fulfillment and conversation. I believe that weaknesses and corruptions in our own thinking about digital rights and intellectual property rights will have the effect of slowing down or sometimes even blocking this from happening."
